Square Loyalty: Visit vs Amount Spent

Hello,

Please can someone identify the difference between: 'Visit' and 'Amount Spent' when accruing points.

As I understand it:

Visit requires a PHYSICAL visit to the store.  ie.  This WON'T work online?

The amount must be spent on a SINGLE visit ie. not over multiple visits?

Amount Spent can be spent over several visits both in-store and online?

So if I had a £10 minimum on 'Amount Spent' and I spent £2, one week, £3 the next week and then £5 the following week.. I would only get the points once I reached £10 in the 3rd week?  How long does it take for this to expire?

What if for example I spent £2 one week, £3 the next week and then £5 7 weeks later.. would that still get me points?  If it did get me points would they expire after they point was gained or would the expiry count from the first payment of £2?

Hey @TGPH, thanks for your post!

Visit is actually every time the customer make a purchase. Under this, purchases made online will also count. Every time a purchase is made, that'll count as a visit and customers will earn points.

Amount Spent is more for how much they are spending each visit. So customers can visit your store multiple time but maybe only one purchase will met the threshold.

In terms of points accrued, you can set their expiry date as well. The date will applied for when the points were first gained. You can always change your expiry date from Loyalty > Settings > Expiry on your Dashboard.

You can find more information about setting up your Loyalty programme in our Support Centre as well.

Thanks for answering re expiry.

I am afraid you have misunderstood the nuance of my other question unfortunately.

Let's try this: What is the difference between a VISIT with minimum spend £20 and an AMOUNT SPENT £20.

?

Sorry for the confusion @TGPH! If possible, can you give me a bit more information on how you are looking to setup your Loyalty programme?

I did some additional testing on my end and here are the differences I can see betweenVisits and Amount Spent:

  • For Visit, you can determine the minimum purchase the customer must make each visit before they earned a point. You can, for example, set it so customer must spent at least £10 per visit in order to earn 1 point.

  • For Amount Spent, the point is determined on the amount. You can set that every £1 customer spent equal 1 point, so if they purchased £15 worth of item, for that purchase they'll have accrue 15 points. So the amount set there is not so much a minimum but rather an equivalence.

I hope that will help but let me know if there is anything I miss.

Hey @tranguyen

I'm just coming up against this now.

I currently have Amount spent to £10, for 1 token earned.

Now if the customers comes to the bar and spends £5, then the following day they come back and spend £6, do they then earn that 1 token? I think that's how it works?

Thanks

D

Ok, I tested this myself and that is not how it works on 'Amount Spent' the amount set here is the amount you have to spend equal to, or over, in one transaction.
