Square KDS 2 screens questions

Hello! I’ve been using Square KDS screen for a while and love it, but I have just got a 2nd iPad so I could use 2 screens. 
 
I would like to have one screen at each side of our coffee van, both showing all the orders that come though.
 
However, when testing, I realised when you tap the name on the top of the ticket (to delete the ticket) it deletes it from BOTH screens. I need orders to stay on the screen until deleted from each device.
 
I was using Fresh KDS for a couple of years and this this this perfectly, I assumed this would be the same?
 
Essentially all this is doing is screen mirroring one display which I could do for free with a tv screen, and Appleplay, so surely paying an extra £15 for a 2nd device would work as a separate screen too? 

Is there a setting I need to change for this?

Sorry for my late reply. I will look into this for you with our team. Before I do so, I just want to make sure I understand it right. When you said the order was deleted from both screens when you tap the ticket name, would you like to have deleted orders stay visible until it is manually deleted on the other screen too?

Hi Emma, yes that is correct, the order must only be deleted from from the iPad it was tapped on, and not both, as the order may not have been completed by the other team yet.

Hey @Jasminhartley  - why does it want to stay on the other screen when it’s been made? 

There are two setting/versions for configuration when you set up each screen. I have one as a ‘prep’ where items are made & ticked off, then the ‘expiditer’ where they’re marked off as they’re collected. 

This set up works really well for me, you get a dot next to each item as it’s marked as made on the expiditer view. However when an order is marked off on an expiditer station then it will be removed from all KDS’s.

Thanks @Sam_400º for your input. You are right. @Jasminhartley, you can choose between the Preparation (Prep) station or the Expeditor (Expo) station. You can read more about each of these stations' functionality in our Support Center here

Thanks for your replies.

 

Basically we have one screen for the coffee station and another screen for milkshakes, if the coffee has been made and they then bump this off the screen, the person on milkshakes may not have made or seen this drink before it vanishes.

 

I’ve tried both prep and expo screens and this still doesn’t work.

 

It’s such a shame as we moved over from Fresh KDS where this function was standard, hoping square would simply run better as it’s square taking to square. 

So this doesn’t seem to be a setting we can actually set?

Oh, that’s even easier then @Jasminhartley

you can either set up each KDS to only show their categories, then as each station marks off their items it would go from their screen but not any other. 

Alternatively (& probably works as good practice anyway) when an item is prepped then just that item should be marked off, not the entire order. That would mean each station can see w

when the other has prepped theirs.

Hi there,

 

This you for getting back to me, however unfortunately this still doesn’t work for us. We need to know if the order has another drink with it, for example if someone is making a milkshake, they need to see that this customer is also waiting for a latte, so they can receive their drinks together. 

If we had one set up only for hot and one only for cold, I’m guessing it wouldn’t have any info to know this?

 

I know we can select the drink that has been made, which puts a line though it, but usually on on the coffee machine ipad for example, we’d just delete any orders that come though with only milkshake on so they don’t fill the screen, and vice versa. But this can’t be done sadly.
