Split Payment Decline Issue

Hello community!

I run a liquor store in Atlanta and there’s something I noticed on declined card payments. Whenever someone’s card declines and I click the cancel button, sometimes the payment will split for a random amount. I’m not sure if that’s the current balance on their card or if it’s just a glitch but it happens quite often and it becomes some what of a hassle when it’s a split payment because I have to cancel the whole transaction.

Has anyone run into this issue or at least have a understanding as to why there’s a random amount that will split when declines on some transactions?

Hi @JohnOfATL ,

I think what happens is that certain card types might release the "available funds" from that card.   When this happens, I believe you are correct, and you have to restart the tranaction.

If it does happen, I would suggest remembering what that amount was, and then start a split payment with that payment amount and that payment type.  You should then be able to go through and complete the payment with a different payment type (assuming that they have enough funds on the 2nd payment type to cover it).   Make sense?

Hoep this helps some.
