Single vs Double

I am wanting to use square to manage a small bar.

In terms of managing stock of spirits for example I have configured the POS to have options, (single and double shot) and also variations which add a mixer.

So in a single screen you can pick a spirit, pick whether it is single or double shot and add a mixer.

All of this seems to work well and gets me to the right price quickly but my concern is around stock.

So an example of this would be:

When I see the single shot, it needs to deduct a single shot from the bottle - but bottles are added as bottles, not 28 single shots.

When I see a double as an option, this would need to deduct 2 shots from the bottle but I cannot see a way to do this as options are their own products.

When I add a mixer ie coke to the order, this would be a can of coke, which can also be sold separately and would need to deduct a can from the total amount that we have - what I need to do here is to use another product combined with the main product that has been selected.

I have tried a few ways of doing this, such as not having option for single and double and choosing 2 shots instead, but the price for a double is not the same per shot as the price of a single.  For example a single would be £3 and a double £5.

Is any of this possible?

Hi @Adam-Hewitt, thanks for your post and welcome to the Seller Community,

Thank you for the details, they were really helpful.

The way that comes to mind here would be to set up your items and then add 'add coke (shot)' as a modifier but this is tricky because tracking ingredients and adding stock amounts to modifiers is not possible with Square at this time.

It is possible to track stock with variations but it still wouldn't solve the problem of deducting the shot from the bottles.

You'll need to add them as individual items if you want to track them

In cases like this, we usually recommend using one of our partners MarketMan which allows you to view inventory levels in real-time, as well as track and eliminate waste and more

Or we have a Sell-by unit and stock conversion feature as part of Square for Retail which works well for businesses that sell an item in multiple ways but want to decrement inventory from the same quantity.  For example, wine shops that sell wine by the case, bottle or glass - you could test this out and see if you get a set-up that works for you. You can read more about this feature here.
