Shipping services based on weight

I have a simple Square online shop and I use shipping services based on weight of items purchased.

I've come across an issue regarding shipping options available to the customer when items are over the prescribed weight for a particular service...

For example I use Royal Mail tracked 24 and 48 for most of my small items > 2kg, but then I offer shipping by Courier for those over 2kg.

I've set up the rules for shipping based on the weights, but unless I set a default cost the shop will give the customer a free shipping option for RM 24/48 when the weight is over 2kg...

Surely the default position should be "Don't offer the service" if the parcel falls outside the weights which have been stated.  ie, when items weigh over 2kg, only offer courier delivery.

I have set a default of £999.00 so when items are over 2kg then RM 24/48 are priced at that amount... looks whole unprofessional, but does stop the free shipping issue.

This has put me off continuing the development of the square site and looking at the issue of international shipping, as that needs to be done by country and weight....

Can anyone suggest a solution, or an alternate platform which actually handles shipping rates/weights better ?

https://goshippo.com/partners/square

You can link this - out of interest when you create an item does it offer you all the google anlaytics, merchant centre and google indexed bar codes meta integration etc.

Hi @Guessworks , thanks for posting on the Community. I understand it's frustrating when features are not working as expected.

I'd like to try and replicate this on my end, and I'll need some more details to do so. Can you share the link to your website, as well as a screenshot of your Shipping Fulfilment settings ?

Have you reached out to our Support Team already ?

I've changed the way I do shipping, rather than stating a service, eg Royal Mail, Fedex, UPS etc etc, I just give them two options, Priority and Economy... that way I just price it by which ever service I intend on using and don't give them the option of provider, just the speed of delivery.

Not ideal for my business, but seems to work, I then just have lots of services based on the location of the buyer

@Guessworks I'm glad to hear you were able to find a workaround. Have you taken a look at the API that @Twiggy shared: https://goshippo.com/partners/square ? Would that be something useful for your business and the way you ship your products?

Feel free to tag me if you have any other questions !

GoShippo, yes had a look, why should I pay for something I already have.. seems a bit pointless really... I use the square website as it's a low cost option for a web front end, I pay square per transaction for its services.. the orders are the API'ed into my bespoke software which integrates with Royal mail and Fedex... I wanted a low maintenance solution for my online sales... Seriously considering Shopify as an alternative... may even go back to Paypal.
