Set Price - Varying Tax

We would like to charge $1.00 for an item that we would classify as a "drive by" item.  We attend shows and often we are busy and people throw money over the counter at us for these cheap, quick grab items.  We go to different locations where our tax rate changes each time.  I am having trouble setting the items up and have the math come out correct.  What I would like to do is set up the item to be $1.00 regardless of the current tax rate applied without having to adjust the price each time we change location.  It is a taxable item so I need to collect/report tax on the item.  Is there a way to do this?  I understand how to set up individual tax rates for specific items, but I don't see where I can set the final price and back out the tax to give me my item price.

Location1 - Item Price $0.91, Tax Rate 10.25%, Total $1.00

Location2 - Item Price $0.92, Tax Rate 8.8%, Total $1.00

Location3 - Item Price $0.93, Tax Rate 8.2%, Total $1.00

This would just be very helpful and I am hoping I am just not typing the right words in the search bar and this will work like magic!  Thank you for your time and assistance.

Hey there, @elysiumleopard.  So, first off, item prices can not be variable like this, and automatically change based upon other factors like sales tax rates.  I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a POS system that would do exactly what you are trying to accomplish here, mostly because it would be a nightmare to maintain and track.  You could try to submit a feature request on the Ideate Board, but this is one that I’m not sure would get much traction since it is not something that would be used by many sellers other than you, probably.  But, at this point, all you can really do is what you are doing — calculating the price you need at the current location and manually changing it during your location setup.

I will say that if you could use sales tax-inclusive pricing in your POS, this would solve your problem.  However, that approach would also open another can of worms as you would have to reprice your entire item catalog to include sales taxes in the prices.  On top of that, some states require prior notification if you change from additive to inclusive sales tax calculations, so caution and the advice of an accountant is highly recommended if you decide to go this route.

Sorry not be have better news, here.
