Sales Tax is a Curse

Is there not a way to turn off sales tax on an entire invoice? It's frustrating when I have an invoice with 40+ individual items and I have to sift through and find the one product that is charging sales tax. I have a few products that I sell at retail shows that need sales tax but the vast majority of my products are wholesale. Keeping sales tax from creeping in is a constant struggle.

@Brad265367 Easy work around that will take care of it for you.

Turn on open tickets in the point of sale.  Ring in all of the items you need to put on the invoice.  You can then take the tax off with one click!  then you can charge the items to an invoice as a payment type and add the customer.  If you really want to then go to the dashboard you can save the invoice as a draft and edit it in the online dashboard.

No more fooling with single item tax issues.

Hi @Brad265367.  I have a workaround, as well as a suggestion for a feature request to the Square Invoices team.

First, it sounds like you are creating invoices from the online dashboard.  Unfortunately, that invoice creator does not allow you to turn off sales tax at the invoice level.  However, if you use one of the Invoices Apps (iOS, iPadOS, Android) instead, you can turn off sales tax for an entire invoice.  So hopefully you have an iPad or Android tablet that you could use for your wholesale invoices for now to get rid of this frustration.

Secondly, I recommend submitting a feature request to the Square Invoices team.  In that request, point out that the dashboard invoice creator seems to be the only problem here.  The invoices apps AND even the save to invoice feature of the Square POS allow us to turn off sales tax for an entire invoice.  Only the dashboard seems to be the holdout here, which makes me think it is an oversight.

If you do decide to submit a feature request, come back here and post a link to it.  I would love the support/upvote that request and I’m pretty sure I know a few others who would as well.

Hopefully my workaround will help you out.  If you have any other questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reply.
