Sales Tax for Custom Amounts

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: Why isn't sales tax automatically applied to custom amounts at my Square POS?

When I enter a custom amount during checkout at my Square POS, sales tax is not added despite having sales tax automatically set up in my account. How do I fix this?

Solution

Go to your Dashboard, at the bottom of the right side, click "Settings". The sub menu will pop out, click "Account & Settings".

Now on the right side, you will see "Payments", click it and a menu will pop down. In this menu is "Sales Taxes", click it.

Now you should see your sales tax that you set up. Click that sales tax. It will allow you to edit the sales tax. On this screen, you will see a toggle that says "Apply tax to custom items". It should be blue once on.

Now click "Save" in the upper right. You must save or it will not take hold.

Give it all a minute or two to sync. Maybe best to close the app on your device and reopen so it syncs.

Now type in a custom amount using the keypad and see if it adds tax.
