We've got two Square Stands.
They both use the same ethernet receipt printer, through which they print receipts and trigger the single cash drawer that we're using for both.
I have a spare USB receipt printer, which I'd like to use on one of the Square Stands to print receipts, while continuing to use the ethernet printer for the cash drawer - ie:
Square Stand 1 - Ethernet printer for receipts / Ethernet printer for cash drawer
Square Stand 2 - USB printer for receipts / Ethernet printer for cash drawer
When I plugged the USB printer into Stand 2, that stand started printing out receipts from the printer just fine, but wouldn't use the ethernet printer to trigger the drawer.
Is there any way to make this happen?
Hey @HerbertAnchovy - if you set up a secondary printer station on the terminal that's using the USB printer, but have that second one set as the ethernet printer. On that printer station turn all the options to off, so it won't use it for any ticket or receipt printing but will still know there is a cash draw there to ping.
@tranguyen - interestingly I've seen there's no way to do this in reverse and that would probably be more useful. You'd not be able to have two terminals share one ethernet printer but have their own cash draws (one connected to the printer one connected via USB). But I can see this being a more common use case.
Hey @HerbertAnchovy, thanks for your post! Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this.
For the ethernet printer connected to the second Stand, how is the printer set up? As @Sam_400º, you should be able to set it up so even if it doesn't print anything, it should still open up a cash drawer.
You should be able to check these settings in the app by going to More > Settings > Hardware > Printer. Select the printer station and then you should see what looks like the screenshot below.
If that's how your settings are set up, can you let me know? I'll take another look into it if it still doesn't work for you.
