Price embedded barcodes on Android

Hi everyone, I read on square that they added the price embedded barcodes feature on Square for Retail on IOS and the Square register here:

I was wondering if anyone knows if it's compatible with a Android tablet setup.

Hi @fazzurbanfarm,

I'd be happy to help clarify this!

It looks like you've come across an older thread from 2022, but the information is still largely the same today. At the moment, creating and scanning price-embedded barcodes with Square requires:

a) A label-printing scale that supports UPC-A or EAN-13 barcodes

b) A compatible barcode scanner and POS device (iOS or Square Register)

c) The Square for Retail app

It’s worth noting that the scale setup is completely separate from your POS. You would weigh the item on the scale, have the scale print a barcode label with the embedded price, and then scan that label at your POS to ring it up.

If you’re simply looking to print barcode labels for your items, you can generate standard barcodes through Square, print them, and scan them with a compatible scanner. While the price is not read from the barcode itself, for items that vary in price by weight, using variable-price items will let you manually enter the price at checkout based on the item’s weight.

We’ve received a lot of feedback about expanding barcode functionality across different apps and devices, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the Square Product Roadmap for any upcoming updates in this area.
