If a customer scans a QR code to pay from a mobile payment service and the payment is recorded in Square, are state sales taxes on that sales included with the sales taxes on the sales made using credit cards through Square?
@sv57 If you are talking about a customer using their phone to pay with a QR code it is like a payment link and it will collect whatever taxes you have set up on the transaction.
I only use Square to run credit cards through my small business when I sell at craft fairs/boutiques. This is the first time I've used a "scan to pay" sign with Venmo and PayPal options using QR Codes. Two people paid through Venmo and when I "rang up" the sale in Square, I received a message that Square recorded the transaction. I ran a report and the two transactions were reported as "other sales". I just don't know if the total sales tax number included the sales tax on those two transactions. Do you know?
@sv57 the venmo/paypal collected the total amount you told it to charge and the payment as other in the point of sale will still reflect the sales tax collected. So if you sell something for 9.00 and tax 10% the person should have paid 10.00. I would look at that specific transaction..
