Payment declined on Customers that are under 18 years of age

Hi guys I have a square till and I am having a lot of payments declined but only from young customers, most are under the age of 18 and they all have money in there accounts. would like to know if anyone else has had the same problem and if so is there a fix for it? I have asked square directly and they have confirmed there is no age restriction on the payment gateway.

I see this is your first post! Welcome to the Community, it’s great to have you here. 


I’ve had a dig around in the archives, and I can see this has come up from time to time when the minor has been attempting to use a card that is issued specifically for under 18's, at an establishment that is not deemed appropriate by their card issuer. 


For example, I’ve seen sellers with the MCC (Merchant Category Code) Bar Club Lounge, report that GoHenry cardholders with funds available were declined with the decline error, ‘Transaction Not Permitted to Cardholder’.


When you first created your account, you’ll have been asked to select your business type from a limited list that has been approved by the card processing networks. Your MCC is then determined by this selection.


When you spoke with our team, did they advise on the decline reason, or discuss your MCC being a potential cause for declines? If not you might want to check with the Customer Success that the correct MCC has been applied to your business.

Hi thanks for spending the time to reply to me, No when I spoke to your team they never said anything about the MCC code so it will get in turn with them today to check if the code is correct.
