Today I experienced the whole POS system shutting down completely. It looked like it had no power, naturally my first instinct was to check the connections and the outlets. Everything was fine with our outlets, still the POS was completely dead therefore all of our printers were offline... After aprox 20mins of unplugging/pushing the re-start button it finally came back. An hr later it did the same thing, we were about to take an order and it shut down...very frustrating since it was in the middle of our lunch rush. Anyone experiencing the same?
Hi @Fogelbach. First, I’m answering your questions assuming that you are using an iPad POS (in a Stand or not), and not a Register. I’ve had that happen a few times with my old iPad Air. It turned out that the lightning connector had gotten wet at some time and one side had shorted out. It would only power the iPad if the connected was turned to the correct orientation. So, the iPad would run out of juice and shut down.
I also had that happen with an old Stand 1. Again, something happened to the lightning connector in the stand and it would intermittently just quit charging. I finally had to replace that, which was no big deal since that stand was at least 5 years old.
I’ve never known issues like that to be anything that Square apps caused. Having said that, if you have a Register, then someone else is going to have to weigh in, here. If you DO have a Register, how old is it?
Thanks for your answer @TheRealChipA
I have a POS register, not even a year old. I have had square for a while now in my other businesses and never had this issue, but now it freezes on the regular and this happened yesterday at one of our locations. Luckily I happened to be here.
@Fogelbach Well, if it’s not a year old yet, here’s a link to the Square hardware warranty page. It seems that Register comes with a two-year warranty. Of course, you’ll need to go through the troubleshooting steps, and probably you’ll need to call Customer Success to see if they have any further suggestions or ideas. Hopefully they can help you track down something simple, but if not I’d file a warranty claim!
