Notes field on Square register

When I set up our Square register the notes field would popup immediately after entering the price and select Add or + for an item with variable pricing.  Now after entering the price the item goes straight to the cart.  To get the notes field at that point I have to select the item in the cart.  It then pops up.  I want it to popup immediate after entering the price so that we can add details before the item appears in the cart.  How do I get this feature back?

I can see our software has updated to 6.47 but we are having the same issue.  The field for notes does not pop up.  Is there anything I need to do on my end?

So that I can look into it further, could you let me know if you currently have the option to Skip Item Details Screen toggled on, or off for the variably priced items?

OK, I found this option and it is off for the variably priced items.

 

I found another request written a few weeks ago by a manger of a coffee shop with the same issue.  We are an art gallery with over 45 artists.  The items for each artist are something like "Oil Painting".  I need the item detail screen to pop up so that we can enter the name of the artwork sold.  It is not something we can add as a modifier since new artwork is brought in every month.

 

The item detail screen popped up for a couple of days when we started using Square but it does not anymore.

Hmm, can you give us an example of an item this is happening with? We are continuing to investigate this and will try to re-create the issue. If you can provide a picture of what you are seeing as well. Thanks @ASG2

When an item is entered, either by scanning a barcode or selecting it from the checkout screen, it goes immediately to the cart.  If the price is variable we enter the price and it then goes directly to the cart.  (First photo below.)  We need the details screen (second photo) to pop up automatically so that we can add the name of the artwork that sold into the "notes' field before it goes to the cart.

 

We are able to touch the name of the item in the cart and the details screen pops up and we can type in the name of the artwork that sold but that is tedious and slows down the checking out process.

 

When we first set up Square last month for a couple of days the details screen popped up automatically but it stopped doing that.

 

Skip Items Detail Screen is turned off.

 

Please help us out with this.

It is not realistic for us to add options or modifiers to each item.  New artwork is brought in every month and that would be impossible to keep current.  That option could work for a restaurant or retail shop where the options would be set and not change.  Such as whether or not to add cheese to a sandwich or the color of a dress.

Thanks for your patience. Our team is going to work on a long-term fix, but I do not ETA to provide. As a workaround for now, you could try adding a variation or modifier to the variably priced item to make it force the itemization details screen.

As I said adding a variation or modifier to the variably prices items is not a feasible solution or work around.  We have about 50 artists.  Several work in different mediums so we have over 200 variably prices items.  The artwork is not something we can assign a variation such as a size.  If you have any suggestions on what type of variation or modifier would make sense for original artwork I'm open to suggestions.

 

Adding to my frustration is that I am a member of another art gallery where we use Square.  The details screen pops up with that system.   It worked on our Square register for a couple of days.

 

Is this a long term solution you are looking for just for our account or for the software across all accounts?

 

You do keep thanking me for my patience but in truth this is getting old.  Before reaching out with a post on the community I spent a lot of time on the phone with customer service to no luck.

I know this is being worked on but another artist at the gallery asked me if it would work for me to reset the register.  I don't want to loose what is already set up or my history.  I don't know if this will accomplish anything but thought I'd ask.
