Not been approved to accept credit card payments

Hi.

We tried to Join Square and to start accepting card payments. Surprisingly, we received a message that our details cannot be verified, and we were locked. We contacted Equifax asking for free credit file, and received a response that they do not have such as "This may be because there has not been any credit activity recorded for you in the past ten years".

We are 4 years in Australia, never applied for a mortgage or a credit card (we have debit cards), but we live here legally and pay taxes and submit tax return every year.

I wonder if there is anything we can do. Thanks

Hi @NSA,

Thanks for getting in touch and sorry to hear you had trouble with the ID verification process.

As part of our obligations in meeting regulatory requirements in allowing you to take card payments, Square is required to do an ID verification for the Square account holder. We presently conduct this via 3rd Party company called Equifax, who are trying to verify your info via your credit history as well as presence on government databases.

If you don't have a credit history in Australia, it can unfortunately limit the number of source Equifax have to match when trying to verify your ID.

While we can't provide specific support for this issue via our Seller Community forum, you can get in touch with our support team on 1800 760 137 to chat further. I'd also recommend taking a look at this troubleshooting article.

All the best!

Exactly the same issue here, contacted Equifax, got the same response. Customer support so far not big help (thank you Thomas for at least unlocking another three attempts). To make it even more interesting, I have changed both my name and my address in the past 6 months (got married and moved in) and I am still in the process of changing all the information across all my documents. No idea which ones and if they even have any of those on files, Very frustrating. Signing up for cryptocurrency trading in Australia was easier.

Please post an update on your issue if you will be able to solve this.

I registered on my name instead of my wife's. Surprisingly, in the process "Equifax has indicated that they were unable to verify", however, I was identified by government resources successully.

I applied for a free credit record held by Equifax, and was astonished to find out that my registered address with them is 3 years and 8 months out of date, and my employer is four years out of date (my first employer in Australia).

I wonder why Square insist on relying on such an unrelyable service.

Thank you for the information. I think I might try to register under my husbands name if this is the case. In 5 years in Australia I have changed my address 8times (although only once in the past 4years but those I have already tried and it did not work), got married and changed my name, and I cannot count how many times I have changed an employer (approx. every 3-12months). Square should really reconsider how they verify the identity of their customers.
