When I signed up for Square, I think I created a business accidentally. Now that I've been added to the actual business, I can't seem to delete the wrong one.
All the answers say to go to the My Business > About page, but I don't have a deactivate button. I can't even change the name.
Hi @jackmhou, welcome to the Community!
I'm glad to hear you've been added to the correct Square account!
Regarding the original account you'd like to remove — as long as you're the account owner, you can deactivate it by following these steps:
1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard.
2. Go to Settings > Account & Settings > My Business > About.
3. Click Deactivate Your Business.
4. Select your reason for deactivation, add any optional comments, then click Continue.
5. Enter your account password and select Confirm.
a) If you have 2-Step Verification enabled, you'll receive a verification code via text or through your authenticator app.
b) If 2-Step Verification is not enabled, the verification code will be sent to the email address associated with your account.
6. If you're the account owner and still don’t see the option to deactivate, we can assist you from our side.
I’ll send you a DM now — feel free to reply there if you need further help. 🙂
I figured it out.
I had 2 businesses of the same name. Business A which I thought was the correct one and business B which looked empty. Turns out A was in fact the one I accidentally created and B was the correct one. B looked empty because I had no permissions to see anything (and obviously no permissions to deactivate it).
The solution was to deactivate A (the only one I could deactivate), and get the owner of B to add permissions.
