Limit items per order stopped working

Hello. I have a hobby bakery and ever since I've been using squareup (2-3 years) I've set a limit on items per order. I can only make a maximum 2 items per order. In the ole' days if the customer would try to select more than 2, an error message would be displayed and the fonts would turn red.

Now customers can add unlimited items to the shopping basket and once they press "continue to payment" nothing happens. Only when shopping basket is reduced to 2 items, they can proceed to the next step.

 

I'm firmly convinced this is a bug as I never touched the website's inner workings in years.

Thank you so much for sharing a link to your site. I went ahead and tried to check out more than 2 items, and I got a "toast banner/notification" that is supposed to include the Message of the order limit but the text isn't appearing. 

 

You can see the example below under the Your Cart heading:

This looks like a theme or styling issue. Can you try (without publishing your site) to use a different theme so we can confirm if this is a theme problem or a bug like you mentioned?

Thank you so much for checking it out. I will try what you suggested. Just to mention: I noticed your screenshot shows the shopping basket. When the process was working fine, you could not have added 5 items, let alone see that total. You couldn't even proceed to the shopping basket untill the amount was reduced to 2.

I have changed the theme without publishing it. I tried a preview of the new theme, however I can't use shopping cart since it's just a preview

So far squareup support has been dismal. Other than asking me twice what the issue was, never got any confirmation of "we're working on it" or at least aknowledge the bug.

I was able to get a response from our Square Online team sooner rather than later. They have fixed your theme. Now, when your customers have more than 2 items, the alert displays the text correctly, making them aware of your limits. They were also able to clarify that the order limits are only enforced during checkout since this feature was released on Square Online.
