Not even a year ago I ordered a square stand, iPad, receipt printer, and cash drawer (we own a bar). At first it was awesome I loved it, but here lately I’ve noticed that there’s a lag between me hitting the dollar amount and the cash drawer opening. Like the other night a customer ordered two beers for him and his wife that totaled $5.50 when I touched the amount of cash given I was able to walk 8 feet, open the cooler, and grab/opened one of the beers that they ordered before the cash drawer opened up. It seems to only happen when I’m running a lot of transactions on a busy night. Now to solve this I have upgraded my internet package, restarted the square stand, restarted the iPad, uninstalled the app and reinstalled, even tried restarting the router. Nothing works. Any idea to fix the lagging. I’ve tried everything.
IS your cash drawer driven by USB or connected directly to the printer? @LoebauStore also what version of the ipad do you have and have went to the square app page in the app store to make sure it is updated and your ios is up to date? Silly I know, but you would be surprised at I have seen updates hang up.
There is a small box with usb ports that everything plugs into. The iPad itself updated a day or so ago to 16.4.1, the app needed an update so I did, then I closed out the app and tried. There still is a lag between hitting the cash amount and the drawer opening.
I got the 6.14.1 update and seemed Like I had a ton of issues. I posted about some of them in Update 6.14.1 in the Forum. Today Square just released 6.16.1 and was told my issue went away after I updated to that. I had another update of 6.15 which still had other issues, not what you are describing though. My cash Drawer is Printer driven through the Network not USB. I know that people have mentioned disconnecting and reconnection issues with devices plugged into the Square USB Hub though. Random Card reader connections, disconnecting reconnecting, and same thing with some Scanners. I wonder if this could be your problem with the cash drawer maybe disconnecting and reconnecting?
Try to update the Square Software to 6.16.1 when you can and see if that helps.
