LS2208 Zebra barcode scanner not reading 0 at the beginning of barcode

I'm setting up my Square register, and the LS2208 Zebra barcode scanner works fine unless the barcode starts with a 0, and then it won't read it (e.g., if the code is 0614143658099, when I scan it, it says "Item with GTIN 614143658099 was not found"). I've reached out to Zebra but their support is pretty terrible and I haven't heard back. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

Have you checked the manual for the default reset barcode? The link below is to the manual with all the barcodes. The default reset barcode is on page 45.   LS2208 Manual

Down Load a Barcode Reader Generator from your Cell phones Store APP.

Then Scan your Barcode.

Depending on what ever system you used to print or most recently saved your Catalog the Leading 0 may have been deleted.

By downloading the barcode reader you can test to see if the Leading 0 is there or not.

I had the same issue, seemed like one time I would export and open my Catalog CSV the 0 would be there, the next time it would not be there.   Excel assumes it is a Number and DROPS the leading Zero.   You can change this setting in Excel but it is buried somewhere.  I was using LibreOffice and everytime I opened the Spread sheet it would ask my the Types of columns so I could choose TEXT for my SKU and GTIN fields.  So make sure the leading zero is still in your item for the SKU or GTIN.

I double checked the GTIN field in "Edit Item" and the zero is still showing there. I got a barcode scanner app, and it shows the zero. I got in touch with Zebra and they said they looked at the RAW data and there is no zero in front of the strings (?). I guess I'm not really following where the disconnect here.

I have a few Last options, because for me the app on my cell would not Show the leading Zero and that is when I realized the Barcode was printed incorrectly.  Either by ME or by my supplier with a pre-printed barcode.  If your Zebra is scanner 13 numbers what I would do if it is consistantly doing that to THIS 1 barcode, goto your Items at your Register > Menu>Items and search by the GTIN with 0.... then in the SKU field Scan the item hopefully it scans with 0 missing.  Then by doing this you will have the SKU and GTIN in Square for you to scan this item when it sells.  I know this did not Fix the issue but it will stop the Do you want to add this item.   Since it is the same item all reporting will be kept just Square will look it up by SKU not GTIN if that makes sense.

1) Reset to factory (Page 3 of link)

Link to zebra Factory settings and Barcodes : https://www.zebra.com/content/dam/zebra_new_ia/en-us/manuals/barcode-scanners/ls2208.pdf

2) Try that Barcode on a computer or Laptop or Chrome book with the Zebra Scanner, Scan the Barcode into a Word processing or Text editor.  If this works correctly the 0 is there and the scanner is working.  (Trying to figure out if Square or Zebra)  If the Scanner does not work with Laptop etc at all you may need to also Scan USB Keyboard HID (Page 4 of Link abaove)  I wonder if your Factory Settings are not correct for HID Keyboard.  You are using the Square Register with the Customer display?  Asking because some people in the forum call the Square Stand a Register as the general term for where a person pays.

When you get the Zero in front and can do this a few times.... Then connect to Square and see if the 0 shows there.

How did you print the Barcode?  With Square?  Did you enlarge or shrink the Barcode?  Spacing will effect the barcodes readability so increasing decreasing the images make barcodes less readable.   Do not think this is the case since everything else is reading.   Do you have Space around the barcode or is it close to other text or edge of label?  You sometimes need 3/16 inch around a barcode that has nothing else there.  I have had problems with some Pre printed labels on my Taper candles.  The way the barcode was on the Round surface kept me from haveing the scanner seeing the entire Barcode easily..... Cell phones better 12 mp camera would see it but not the scanner.  Make sure label is flat for Scanner to read before applying to your item.  I just created this with 2 different Barcode fonts 128 and 39, see if your scanner can read these or which one it does read.

Both these gave me the below image since I do not have this item in my Items catalog but both showed the leading 0 with my zebra scanner.  The top Left one worked with my Cell app on my screen but the Code 39 is giving me way different numbers when it tries to read the barcode on the screen.

Can you post a picture of your barcode?

Out of curiosity/frustration, I deleted the GTIN field in the Edit Item page, re-added it with the scanner, and that worked! I'm still not sure why, but I won't look that gift horse in the mouth. Thanks for the help!
