Is there a way to create an on screen prompt for allergens at the checkout before payment?

Hi there,

I would like to know if there is the option to add a on screen prompt to say "Have you asked about allergens" for staff to be reminded to ask customers about any allergies they may have. This would need to appear before payment is accepted.

Currently, Square doesn't offer a dedicated on-screen prompt specifically for allergen checks before payment is processed.

However, you could consider using required modifiers as an alternative solution. With this approach, you can create allergen-related modifiers that staff must complete before proceeding to checkout.

One important consideration with this method is that your staff would need to select a response (e.g., yes/no) for each item that has the modifier applied. This solution might work well if you only need allergen confirmations for a few specific items, but applying it to your entire item library could potentially slow down your checkout process, especially during busy periods.

@hollydear this is a great idea. With the heightened challenges of allergens especially in a food and beverage businesses I think this would be a great idea. We run a small chocolate business that also serves take out drink and ice cream. We have tried to implement an ask all customers if they have any allergies we should be aware of, but invariably they fall by the wayside. So a prompt before payment would be nice, next level would have a pop up box so you could select allergens of issue or a text box where you could type the allergen in so its attached to the order electronically.

For me I would also like on check out a prompt to the register user to add a customers email to the newsletter mailing list.

Format something similar to the age verification for alcohol purchase at check out which the Square system has already has. This works well.

Lots of prompts for different business needs. More prompts needed please 😊
