I am trying to set up my Square to use for a local vendor event, however a large quantity of vendors in my area appear to use Square. I wanted to add a nickname to my reader in order to quickly locate which one is mine during set up. Can anyone help?
Hi, @RiversStitchery ! Welcome to the Square Community!
While Square doesn’t currently let you assign a custom nickname directly to the physical reader itself, you can name each reader within your Square Point of Sale app settings so you can identify it when you pair it. Here’s how to do it:
Open the Square Point of Sale app on your device.
Tap the three lines (☰) or More > Settings > Hardware > Card Readers.
You should see your connected reader listed. Tap on it. If there’s an option to rename or edit, you can give it a nickname (like “Vendor Booth Reader 1”).
If you don’t see a rename option, another trick is to use Device Nicknames in your Square Dashboard. Go to Account & Settings > Devices, then locate your device and set a clear nickname. This helps when you view activity and settings later.
Also, using a clear location name in your Square account can help prevent mix-ups if multiple readers appear during Bluetooth pairing. If you’re setting up multiple devices at the same event, keeping only your reader turned on until pairing is complete can help too.
I hope this helps!

You really shouldn't have a problem with connecting it or getting it mixed up with others. The pairing distance is within 10 feet, and as soon as you put it in pairing mode, you should see it show. Once the connection is made, you can name it as Summer pointed out. IF you have a concern that there will be a problem, I would try and pair it to the device that's being used before you get to the event. We have only really had to pair once to our iPads/phones and were good to go every time.
