I get an error saying" an app is need for this device" when trying to connect my chip reader

Why does my phone keep telling me that an app is needed for this device?  I have the square app and my chip reader has been working just fine for like 2 years.  I had the other one  replaced because I though it was broken! Turns out that the pairing is good but the chip reader will connect to the square app

Are you getting this error when attempting to pair the reader via the Square Point of Sale app? This error typically appears when attempting to pair the Contactless and Chip Reader via the Bluetooth settings.
