The title of this thread has been edited from the original: overpayment

I'm wondering how to record an overpayment from a customer who wants to leave as a credit on their account?

Hi @SVBS 🙂 thanks for checking in on this thread.

At this time there is no way to keep customer credit with Square. This would need to be done manually.

If there are any updates on this, we'll let you know via this thread!

Hey there and welcome to the Seller Community! At this time, there is no way to have a direct credit on a customer's account for an overpayment. The only way to fix this is to either refund the excess payment to a gift card or allow the customer to purchase a gift card for a later use. You can check out the details on refunding partial payments to gift cards here.

Also, you can set up and order your plastic gift cards on our Square Dashboard under Gift Cards.

Let me know if you have any other questions. 🙂

Is there an option for keeping a credit on file for a customer now? Asking again because your reply was over 4 years ago. Thank you!
