How do I process a gift certificate

I have two means of producing a gift certificate. One on our web site and the other from a Terminal at the outlet. The website produces a three digit code on a printed voucher and the other, a 16 digit number on the voucher it produces (emailed, texted etc). It appears that the website voucher is a serialised number produced by the designer and not a Square process. My question is:-

1. Can Square issue a readable gift certificate number as a response to the website purchase portal?

2. Can Square issue the actual certificate to the website for the customer to print etc

3. Can the certificate number be exported for inclusion in an Access file for a local reconciliation?

I trust that is not too confusing

Hey @Daylef,

Thanks for reaching out!

It sounds like at the moment you may be using a 3rd party Gift Certificate system?

While Square doesn't integrate with other gift certificate/card systems, you can record these transactions on our Point of Sale by recording them as "other" transactions.

You may also be interested in our own integrated Gift Card and eGift Card system as well - read more about this here and let me know if you have any questions!

Hi Seamus

The eGift cards used via Terminal are Square. The voucher used via our web site are a design by our web support but use Square Connect for the transaction. The idea that Square can accomplish the entire process online looks like a better solution but a couple of comments if I may.

1. Can the eGift process display a product instead of/as well as, a cash amount. We sell joy flights as one aspect which are a fixed price?

2. I'll assume that the Square Store is simply a link placed on the web site. Is that correct?

Cheers

Hey @Daylef,

1. Gift cards hold a monetary value, rather than a specific item or service. So you can't assign a specific product to the gift card, but you can assign a monetary value of the amount that product costs. Then you can add the product to the transaction at point of sale when the gift card is redeemed.

2. Square Online can host an entire website, or you can use checkout links as a quick and easy way to sell a single product online. Read more about checkout links here - they could be used as an alternative to sell a product online, if you didn't want to create an entire web store!

Let me know if you have any follow up questions  🙂
