How do I do an inventory import without it creating variations for every item?

I'm using Square for Retail. I choose "Modify". When I do a bulk import to change inventory it creates variations rather than just changing the inventory. When I try deleting the variations on the item library, rather than going in to each item individually, it also deletes the amount in stock.

I wanted to get some more information on how you're working with your inventory to get an idea on the next steps. 

When you are doing the bulk updates to your inventory, are you exporting your inventory first from the Square Dashboard, making the edits in excel and then reimporting by modifying your item library rather than replacing it?

Are you keeping the token section?
