How did you come up with the name and logo for your business? 💡

Hey Seller Community!

I know many Australian businesses are doing it tough right now with COVID lockdowns - I thought it might be a nice distraction to talk about something completely different.

How did you come up with the name of your business? What about your logo? Is there a story behind it? Have you ever thought of changing it?

Here’s a fun fact about Square - when we first launched we were actually called Squirrel and one of the first reader prototypes was shaped like an acorn.

In the end the business name changed and our hardware aesthetic also changed to a cleaner and more minimal aesthetic.

Feel free to share your business name, how you came up with it and your logo too if you want. We look forward to reading your replies 🙂

Hi everyone, I have enjoyed reading and seeing the logos posted so far. Here is my story.
The name 'Robbie's Jewellery' came about because I found my initial name 'Handcrafted by Robbie' too long for email, and social media tags. I therefore created Facebook and Instagram pages using @RobbiesJewellery. I felt that my original name did not fit with the professional image I wanted when I decided to turn my hobby into a registered business and since all my pages and email were already assigned to 'Robbie's Jewellery' it made sense to make this the official name.
My logo includes too subtle enhancements that go unnoticed by most people. Instead of the letter 'o' and the apostrophe I use a picture of a sliced quandong seed, and a curved copper plated leaf respectively. Both of which are examples and part of my jewellery.

Thanks for sharing @RobbieJewellery!

Being familiar with your work I was able to pick up on the native flora/jewellery elements! It's a subtle touch, but also uniquely your own, and sometimes in design less is more 🙂

Hi, I'm Heather and had lived in Vietnam for 19 years pre covid and just loved the Indochine feel.

So moving back to Oz, March 2019 I missed the rich Indochine vibe so here we are in 2021 with just beautiful treasures from Indochine-exotic.com now ready for sale in  Australia.

My original concept was entirely different: a cafe/co-working space dedicated to supporting young Filipinos. There’s a whole backstory to do with the name but essentially I was really keen on providing that third space for third culture kids like myself.

But the location I ended up bidding on had a completely different demographic to the crowd I was hoping to nab. Rent and outgoings for that location were enticing enough that I had to pivot quickly in case the opportunity got out from under me!

Luckily there’s plenty of overlap with the mission, vision and values of both businesses. Both brands use empathy, kindness and top-notch customer service to set us apart from our competitors.

Hey @QuokkaCoffee, thanks for sharing your story!

It's interesting to hear how you've balanced your original vision with the commercial realities of running a business - looking at your website, the fundamentals of your original vision shine through, in your mission statement and also in your "Join The Crew" form - it's so well considered. I'm sure the qualities of your original vision will come through in the physical space as well! I love that you've included a link to the Myers-Briggs personality test in the form, I find it's such a useful tool in helping to gain a better understanding of yourself and others (I'm an INFP).

Thanks for posting your mood boards too, each one tells the story behind the corresponding logo design really well, I love them both. Your current logo is adorable and I can see why you've made the change - adding a contemporary Australian cafe vibe makes sense if that's the demographic of the location. The Quokka picture mark is a classic example of Australiana naive art. I hope things go well leading up to the full launch of Quokka Coffee! We're here if you need any Square-related help 🙂

Oh, absolutely. It's soul-crushing when you realize how thin the margins in hospitality can be in proportion to the effort it takes to keep a venue humming. As much as I like to say I don't do this for the money, I need to keep in mind profitability is key to keeping the lights on and the water running--but most importantly, my staff paid and happy. 🤓
