Having barcode trouble on square register

Register will pull up item from scanning barcode but won't recognize total price. It prompts total weight before adding to purchase. What do I need to do to make it recognize total price? Using a CAS 5500r for scale/label printer.

@PCMINC ,

The label should be printing out the Price at the end of the Barcode.  Do you have the Scale set up to print out the Price on the label or is it just printing out the SKU of the item?  If it just prints out the SKU of the item it will ask for the weight.

Here is the article from Square about the barcode Format to include pricing in your Label:

Here is the instruction book that should be able to help you setup your Scale to print in the proper format for Square to read and Price your item:

Keith, thank you for the response. The barcode has both item sku and weight in barcode. 2[Redacted]3 are the numbers printed. 80101 is the sku and .65 is the weight. When scanned register still asks for item weight. Any other information on how to get it to work? Thank you for the help!

Try this 02 80101 00065 as a barcode all together.  Your barcode should only be 12 digits long to be a UPC-A barcode  The 02 defines the type of barcode, the 80101 gets the items SKU and the  00065 charges 65 cents for the item.  If that does not work try typing in  80101 as a search for your item, and see if you get multiple responses.  You do not need the weight in the barcode which might be throwing everything off. From Squares instructions - Additionally, the barcode on the label must contain item price information, not item weight information.  You said your barcode has UPC (which must be 5 digits), Price and Weight... which your upc should be only by price.

In the CL5500 manual you would want to follow 2.1.1 Create By-Weight PLU (Menu code 1120) Page 46

I created a barcode for you to test   Price should come to 13.65... Let me know if it worked for you.

This is a upc-A barcode it dropped the leading "0".

reads 2[Redacted]3.... the last 3 is a check digit

testbarcode.png

This is an EAN-13 with a Check Digit at the end and price should be $15.65 when you scan it.

EAN-13 Price is $15.65EAN-13 Price is $15.65

Let me know if either of these works. Then we can figure out how to setup the Scale to print just that information.  Square says the "0" sometimes drops but "2" should always be the 2nd character  which is confusing to say the least.

Thanks for that I can say it does not work on mine using Symbol LS2408 Scanners and working with square as well and not getting anywhere takes a week to get a response from square and this is a new system which is very frustrating after square said it works.  I added the sku in as 80101 280101 and 0280101 and square reads the entire barcode every time and says it cant find it, says code not valid and reads 02[Redacted]7 now if I put the entire number in it reads it and asks for the weight.  The fields I am filling in is the sku field and switch the POS to standard as this is the only one it works in according to square.  Anybody have any suggestions

Keith do you have this working at Pocono Candle?  I am in Williamsport and may just make a trip out to see your setup if you do if you are willing to show me or I may snap a photo of some of your items you sell by weight, I know exactly where your store is at and was actually in there just a few months ago.

No we do not have this setup and working.  We use a Scale that just gives us the weight, no printed label.  I have been looking for any type of video on YouTube or other places that show this actually working or how to connect the scales.  Since it just prints a Barcoded label I would assume the scale does not have to be attached, but could be wrong here since it only works with certain devices.  I printed out Barcodes for our fudge and gave it the same SKU of 80101 and all I would get is this GTIN is not in Square would you like to add it now?  I would have it with and without check digits and with and without the leading zero and still get This item is not in Square would you like to add it.  This is on the newest version of Square for Retail as of 2 days ago.  I printed out test barcodes as EAN-13 and UPC-A basically as the Square instructions say 02-80101-01365.... wait I did not put the dashes in....would that matter?  Started to think this is because I do not have a scale connected to my Square Stands or network.... but again this feature sounds as though it gets the price from the barcode..... unless the new label is stored in the scale as a data point for the barcode.

Since the CL5500R is a Network device make sure your Square POS is on the same network the Scale connects to and that it shows up on the Square pos as a connected device.   Menu Bars bottom left on Square stand- Hardware - Scale

I was going crazy for awhile since my Receipt printer would only print from one square stand at times, here the one Stand was connecting to a different network and I was unaware of it happening.

Nope you would not need a scale on the network or anything attached if using price embedded barcodes (if square worked they way they say it should) sounds like we are in the same boat

Got mine working the issue was you have to be on the new version of square standard once that was done everything worked perfectly, if it was not for our onboard specialist digging through engineer tickets I dont think we ever would have found it.  I have lost all faith in square normal support been almost 2 weeks and still not getting anything back to me
