Has this gift card problem been fixed yet???

Gift card problems.
MY BUSINESS IS MASSAGE. WHEN I SELL AN ITEM THAT ITEM IS FOR A "MASSAGE SESSION" AT A SET AMOUNT AND EVERYONE TIPS. I AM CONSIDERING ELIMINATING GIFT CARDS BECAUSE OF THIS ONGOING PROBLEM AND THE VERY CUMBERSOME WORK AROUND. A GIFT CARD IS TREATED AS ANY OTHER TENDER AND THE SQUARE SYSTEM SHOULD OPERATE AS SUCH.

IF THE GC IS EQUAL TO THE ITEM/SESSION AMOUNT:

IT WILL NOT PROMPT FOR GRATUITY!

YOU HAVE TO EMBARRASSINGLY ASK THE CUSTOMER “IF THEY WISH TO PUT IT THROUGH EQUAL TO THE SESSION COST OR IF THEY WISH TO ADD ANYTHING BEFORE DOING SO”

IF THEY WANT TO ADD GRATUITY YOU MUST USE THE KEYPAD FUNCTION AT THE TOP LEFT. ALWAYS ENTER A “NOTE” OF “(YOUR NAME) TIP/GRATUITY” AND ENTER THE AMOUNT.

ONCE YOU SWIPE THE GC AS PAYMENT IT SHOULD PROMPT FOR ADDITIONAL FORM OF PAYMENT.

THE BACKUP OPTION IF YOU MISSED DOING THE ABOVE IS TO CREATE A 2ND SALE FOR A CUSTOM AMOUNT USING THE KEYPAD FUNCTION AS DESCRIBED ABOVE.
AWFUL.

@SMW  I'm sorry, I guess I'm not understanding exactly where the flow issue is...

If the gift card is being redeemed for exactly the dollar amount of the sale, Square will definitely not ask for a gratuity simply because there are no funds remaining on the card.

If the gift card is being redeemed for a small amount under the balance, the system will prompt the customer and only show what the remaining dollar amount is. Example, $18 service, $20 gift card, system will ask if cust wants to add a tip and show a line saying something along the lines of $2.00 remaining on the card.

The only way to get around this is by splitting the payment before accepting any tender type. You can split payment on the tender screen in the top right.

Should we as sellers have the option for a tip prompt before accepting a payment? It's not a bad idea, but it's not the way the system is set up currently. I'd recommend submitting a feature request on the Ideate section of this board.

When a sale is made for a massage session (or any service related session), and the massage session is lets say $175, customers will almost always tip on that sale amount of $175. An additional 15-20%. If the item chosen (a massage in this case) is 175 and the remaining GC balance is 175 the system wont prompt for gratuity. IT SHOULD, Are you following???

Asking for a tip at the beginning would be AWFUL and unprofessional as is the CURRENT workaround of asking the customer and adding the tip using the keypad function. This is not a new feature need. It works properly in every other case. Its a bug/error that it doesnt work when the item is equal to the GC

Im very concerned at this reply actually as this has been a known bug for some years now. Hopefully other support staff and Square both recognize the need for this problem to be addressed especially now that we are being charged MORE for every GC
