FEATURE REQUEST - adding STORE CREDIT to a customers account
This is a BASIC FEATURE that needs to be available.
Issuing "e-gift cards" is not the same thing.
Creating "discounts" is not the same thing.
Creating a "coupon" is not the same thing.
From a quick search I can see that this has been an ongoing issue and request from soooooo many users over the past 5+ YEARS.
I need to have STORE CREDIT associated with a customer so that when I create their next invoice that STORE CREDIT would pop up and get used to pay the new invoice.
This has happened when someone has RETURNED an item, or when they have ACCIDENTALLY overpaid me.
Hey @kellythechef -
Thank you so much for submitting this Feature Request! I've updated it to the "Open" status. This step in the Feature Request process will be a time in which other sellers can add their use cases to your idea to make it stronger and demonstrate further how much it is needed. Later on, we'll re-visit the most popular feature requests in the "Open for Votes" status and bring them to product teams.
To other sellers that see this feature, please “like” the post and reply with a use case that your business would have. This will help to signal that this feature request is even more important to address.
We are a tattoo shop and don't use the appointment feature, nor do we use invoicing. We do however, take deposits to secure the appointment time for a future date/time, which comes off the price of the tattoo when they check out on their appointment date. We have no way to deduct the $100.00 we charged for the deposit from the total tattoo price using the register, so it never shows up on their end receipt. We have to do the math and then just charge them the final price. This would be a great feature to have for us, because it's not a discount, gift card sale or a coupon.
Are there any updates on this? We tried to do 100.00 discount named Prepaid Appointment deposit, however, it's still not a discount and if they purchase something else, like lets say a t-shirt, instead of it deducting 100.00 from the tattoo price, it's spreading that deduction over multiple items and not only screwing up our sales reports, but also confusing the customers. We really need this option. Either a store credit option or the ability to add an item with a negative price amount.
This is a basic invoicing feature that needs to be added with best speed. Using a 100% discount gift card is not only clumsy, but also expensive if issuing a credit for a large amount. Discounts do not work if the customer is not spending the full amount, since Square will not allow you to create an invoice with a negative amount, and keeping a separate spreadsheet with remaining credits is counterintuitive. Coupons will only work if the customer is spending the full amount on their next purchase. Creating a House Account with the credit amount as spending limit is clumsy and tedious, then a discount credit still needs to be applied at checkout. Let's get this feature added quickly.
@Kassi_ I'm gonna find the PM team for INVOICES on LinkedIn and spam them until this gets added. It's a basic function that should be included. Happy to write a few use cases for them.
We run a plant nursery and absolutely need a way to "credit" my wholesale customer's account for future use if they return or cancel an order. Most don't want refunds. We also allow them to exchange used plastic containers for plant credits. I need to be able to link this to the customer's account. This happens monthly.
I'm also still waiting for Square to create a way to cancel "bad debt". I've had an open invoice for $500 from an unpaid customer open for over a year. That company closed down so I know it won't get paid. It's archived, but it still pulls in the "overdue" reporting. I can't mark it paid, I need a way to mark it closed due to reason "bad debt". Seems like an easy enough drop down to create. I've seen several requests but there is still no movement on this.
My pricing went up $200 this year, but I haven't received any new practical features of actual use. Can you help us out on these Square??
I 100% agree, this is a feature many users have been asking about but square seems to not be listening to their users wants/needs.
I would also like to add/use this feature for our business for buybacks or returns that exceed "normal" return window.
Offering "points" per sale is also another great feature that seems to be lacking..
We are just starting out but researched how to record such features on Square per our Grand Opening coming up and for many uses in the future and am very disappointed that Square has no way of handling it. We want our clients to buy services at a discounted rate at the gala to use later and now know Square can’t do it. Sad to see.
@Kassi_ can we get an update on this please? Clearly there are many that could use this feature.
We have gameplay in our store and would like a way to give out store credit for winners as well as keep store credit for trade-ins.
+1. Also need this feature. Would also like the ability to automatically add credit to a clients account, i.e. x dollars per month/year.
Issuing gift cards is a clunky workaround—and completely untenable with the 2.5% load fee...
This a basic feature that should be available with a customer account. I realized this was not available when we had a situation with a customer.
I agree. We have a client who likes to pay in advance. The payment is always by a check. Issuing a gift card and paying the load fee is ridiculous. There should be a way to put the pre-paid amount on a house account without having to pay a load fee.
Just here to boost this request!! This feature should absolutely be standard for all accounts. Why you would not be able to credit a client account is beyond me! Adding it as a note is not the best because it can be easily overlooked by another staff member.
Hello everyone! Thanks for writing in and giving us this feature request, we appreciate the feedback. I am curious @devinfancher @WineSneak if adding money manually to a house account suits your needs. You can find more information about that in this support article. And if you have follow up questions or feedback, I'm happy to help you here or by DM. Thank you!
@kristen house accounts only work if you use invoicing, correct? We do not invoice.
@kristen Thay would not really meet my needs either. I want to be able to give credit for promotions. Example: Client comes in and there’s a promotion of $10 off a future purchase if they spend X amount of dollars. I want to be able to put $10 into their account. Gift cards are not a good option because of the load fee. Notes aren’t a good option because they can get lost in the shuffle of notes/files.
Any updates?
Definitely need to add an in-store credit! we run a trading card shop and give in-store credit for items sold and this would absolutely make reports cleaner and more user friendly! Also, need to have a way to enter in a negative value, we sell on other platforms and run transactions through square to update inventory and track overall sales and would like to be able to enter in the gross sales then make adjustment for processing fees. A discount does not report properly for this.
