Exporting only selected columns in a custom report

I'm trying to export a custom report that has only a subset of columns selected for inclusion. When I export the report, all columns (including the ones that have been purposefully excluded) get exported. According to this Square documentation (see below for excerpt, boldface mine), I should be presented with an option to choose whether or not I export only selected columns or all columns, but that's not the case. Am I missing something?

1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Reports.

2. Click on the report you would like to export.

3. Select the relevant filters for your report.

4. Click the export icon.

5. Click the gear icon and select "Export only selected columns" or "Export all columns in your view." By default, all columns will be exported.

Hey @homegrowncone.  It would help a lot if you would be specific about which report you are trying to accomplish this with.  Yes, in theory, what you mentioned above should work.  But, obviously something is not working as expected.  It’s hard to troubleshoot your specific issue without more details — the exact report, columns being excluded, etc.  Then, hopefully I can recreate it and figure out where to go from there.  Thanks!

It's a custom report that includes multiple sections. For example, one of the sections is "Item Sales" which is configured in the report to show only one column, as such:

However, the CSV export includes multiple columns:

Item Name

Item Variation

SKU

Category

Items Sold

Gross Sales

Items Refunded

Refunds

Discounts & Comps

Net Sales

Tax

Unit

I'd like the report to only include the "Items Sold" column, as configured in the online report.

Thanks, @homegrowncone.  That helped a lot.  So, I don’t have a rather satisfactory answer, but it is an answer.

First, that help document is true but only as far as that procedure has been implemented in the various Square reports.  For example, it works for the Category Sales report, but it does NOT yet work for the Item Sales report.  It seems to be a work in progress as far as I can tell.

Second, it DEFINITELY does not work yet for Custom Reports.  Custom reports seem to export everything, including excluded columns.  I don’t know if there are plans to change this, or even if there are plans to eventually implement this “export only included columns” feature to other reports that don’t yet have it.  Like I said, not a satisfactory answer.  But at least you know what’s what right now.  For custom reports, you can print them as you wish, but exports will be messy.

I’m going to tag a few Square moderators who can hopefully touch base with the Reporting Team for more enlightenment on this issue.

I recommend submitting this request on our Ideate Board and encouraging other sellers to vote on why this feature would benefit your business operations. This helps ensure our product team reviews it for future updates.
