Donations through ACH

Recurring monthly donations through ACH. That’s my objective.  I found the use of Square Invoicing with a client that wants to do bank transfers.  But invoicing doesn’t seem to allow the client to change the amount on the invoice.  Their donation is different every month.  How to do recurring Square ACH with client determined (entered) amounts?

Hi @davidtxm.  I tried a few scenarios to see if this was possible, which I did not think it was but I’ve been surprised before when I’m researching stuff!  Anyway, here’s what I learned.

Because of the nature of retail/service invoices (which Square Invoicing was built for), the client is unable to determine the amount they want to be invoiced for — ie - they can’t change YOUR invoice.  You are trying to get Square Invoicing to be something it is not, just so that your client can use ACH.  I might have a workaround, though.

If you know the maximum amount that the client might want to donate at any one time, or you pick an arbitrarily high number for that amount, you can always set up an recurring invoice for that amount.  Then instruct the client to pay what they want to (as a partial payment).  After you receive and clear that “partial” payment, you can just write down the rest of the invoice.

Another workaround would be to get the client (if they can/will) to commit amounts for the next x invoices.  Then you can create those invoices with the correct amounts and due dates and schedule those to be sent for the client to pay.

Otherwise, for a more satisfactory long-term solution, you are really requesting a new Square Product, it seems to me.  You can do that here.  My suggestion would be to put it on something like the “Subscription” board because you seem to be wanting something like Subscriptions but with variable, customer-defined amounts.  This could be a great feature not only for your use case, but for a seller who might want to set up a “pay what you can” subscription series.

Sorry I don’t have a more satisfying answer, but I hope this helps.
