I recently had my legal name changed and I am the account owner. I did a search and saw a thread that had been going on for many years of people asking if square will allow people to do a legal name change. As of 2023 I saw it still wasn't possible. I recently got married and need to change mine and my banking. It seems outrageous that I would have to start a new square account with new banking, website, inventory etc to simply do a name change. The main issue is I have a square bank card under my maiden name that places will no longer accept due to the name change.
Thank you, Jennie
HI Jennie,
The short answer is no. They still do not allow it. The only way would be to close your account and open another one. You can export your current data and import that into your new account.
You can also head over here and kudo the first post and then write something in this feature request to help improve the odds of this becoming a thing for future sellers.

Hello @BlindhoundFarms – I appreciate your inquiry and understand how important this request is. The best way to get this escalated is by following the steps @Minion shared above. If you need anything else, feel free to reach out!
I figured it out! To change your legal name requires some patience. I added myself as a team member with my correct legal name, and full access to all aspects of the business and all locations, and added my SSN under my new team member entry. Once I was verified as a new team member, I was able to transfer ownership from me (old name) to me (new name) and verified the transfer of ownership.
I have two email addresses, I don't know if that factored into it, but it did help me keep the two "me's" organized as old and new owner.
Glad to hear you figured something out for yourself, @HolidayFarm ! When adding a team member, it shouldn’t be asking for a Social Security number—I didn’t run into that on my end. Could you clarify the steps you took? If you can upload any photos that would be helpful. That way, I can mark this as the Best Answer 😊
You're correct, it doesn't ask for the SSN in the team member. I thought it did because the mats where you enter the pay type.
It looks like you don't enter the SSN until you are actually transferring the business to the other team member. I was reluctant to mess up my account, so I didn't go any further in the business transfer process than verifying myself as the owner, which required me to enter my SSN.
The mats= that's
Stupid autocorrect typo
