Do I need to pay sales tax if I am an individual selling for a fundraiser.

I wanted to use Apples Tap to Pay service through square for a fundraiser that I’m doing. Do I need to pay sales tax for what I’m selling to earn money? I’m planning on accepting card and Apple Pay.

@RyanBusiness One important thing to remember, though. If you set up a Square account using your SSN or EIN  to collect money for a fundraiser for someone else, any money collected will by law be reported to the IRS as income for you. This could get very complicated. I’d recommend you consult a knowledgeable tax professional so as not to get yourself in a bind.

Hi @RyanBusiness.  Unfortunately, we can not adequately answer your question here. The answer depends on the laws and regulations in your state. You’ll need to go to your state’s website and search for sales tax information there. They should have a summary guide and/or FAQ to answer your questions, or a phone number to call to explain your situation and get their advice.

Once you have answers from them, you can come back here and ask for assistance in setting up your sales tax properly, if you need to do so.
