Declined Manually Entered Payments

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: "cannot take payments"

 

I just signed up to Square and I understood I could take payments over the phone. I have tried but did not work. All card are denied. I really need to get the machine?

It sounds like you're manually entering the card information for these payments. A card reader or point of sale system isn't required to process payments through Square, but here's some tips to keep in mind so you can successfully process your sales:

  • To manually enter a card payment, you'll need to have the complete card number, expiration date, security code/CVV, and the billing postal code. 

  • If any part of the payment card information is entered incorrectly, the card will be declined.

  • It’s not possible to manually enter card payments while processing offline payments.
