Debit card fees ?

Our account is set to add a 2.9% fee to credit cards at checkout, but when you check out with a debit card it gives a pop-up saying the customer is using a debit card so the fee will be removed.

I can find nowhere on the fee schedules what squares debit card fee is ? I assume since it's removed the credit card fee and processing the card as a debit card it's not charging us the 2.9% + 39 cent credit card fee.  Is it just a flat 39-49 cent fee for debit cards ? It's not listed anywhere on squares site or in our account.

Good Morning @Bob_f

The automatic detection from Square I believe was just recently introduced to decipher a credit card v. debit card in connection when an account is setup for surcharging or adding a convenience fee.  It is actually against the TOS with Visa and MC in the US to charge such fees to a debit card.

So you will still pay the merchant (square fee) 2.9 + 0.30 ( or your current rate) for the actual card processing, but will not be able to pass that fee on to the customer when a debit card is used.

Ok that makes sense. Square should explain that on their surcharge fee page.
