Cust support had me sign up with my laptop. Do I need the app? It's not working either way.

I put on the app, couldn't get it to connect. Called Customer service, they had me use my laptop, and Square Up. I seemed to be connected, it says I am, and account is connected, but when I tried to take payments, it's like it's wanting me to start all over again, sign in, give account info, my info, and no transaction went through.

I bought the square at Wal Mart, so I started out with the 'hardware', so didn't need to buy any extra, as the app wanted me to. I'm so confused. And really don't want to start over again, especially as it says it has my bank information in there and all looks good!

Hello @joyross50 thanks for your post, and welcome to the Square Seller Community! We're glad you're here! I'm sorry you're having trouble getting started. Could you share what your phone app screen looks like before you take a payment? You should see what looks like a calculator (numbers) where you can type in an amount to charge. Or if you have ITEMS setup in your library, you could use the Item tab.

If you're on your laptop, and on the Square website:

https://squareup.com/dashboard/

you should see an option to Take a Payment (see screenshot below)

Click on Take a Payment, and it will open a virtual terminal. You can manually input a credit card number. If you can get the app to work (do you have a card reader?) it will be easiest to accept payments.
