Create Labels needlessly slow?

So I've been using Square for Retail for about a month now and I noticed when I go to create labels it's super tedious.

If I hit add item and scan the item, it won't add it, it requires me to scan it again. If I then add a second item it tries to add the previous item as well.

Is there a trick to quickly scanning and printing labels?

I'm not printing by categories or PO's as this is for general pricing of the store of tags that fell off or never got priced.

I also noticed I have to manually edit the amount of labels it creates for each item, slowing it down significantly. Is there a way to only print one of each label as the default?

Are you trying to print the labels from your Dashboard (desktop) or a remote terminal?

If it's on your Dashboard, go to your Item library --> Actions --> Print Labels
You can then select Category (yes I did see the note from above, but this is the fastest way to add bulk items). This will also give you the option to deselect any items that you don't need the labels for.

I hope this helps!

From my dashboard.

The problem with categories is that I'm usually printing one or two labels in a given category and I have over 30,000 SKU's at this point... Going alphabetically would be literally impossible.

Just to clarify when adding items remotely there is either some lag or a bug that causes the previously scanned item to be added multiple times when adding a second or additional items.

Any idea how to only print one label? Even using the category section is painful because you still have to go back and adjust the number of labels to print.

I'm just surprised that these issues exist given label printing is a pretty standard POS feature and it should be scan 30 items and print, not scan 30 items, constantly hit Add Item, then adjust quantity, then print....

@PartyManiaMD ;

What type of printer and brand are you using to print your labels?

I know with Zebra and Dymo labels you could export you inventory to a csv or excel file and use the Zebra or Dymo labels printing software to print barcodes from Column XYZ which would give you 1-???? labels of everything in your column.  If your using a different label printer they may offer their own software to do this.  Meaning if your SKU is in column XYZ, you can tell the printers software to print 1 of every label in Column XYZ or however many you want.  That might be easier than going through Squares method to print 1 label of everything in your inventory since it has 30,000 items.

I do not have Square for Retail with the ability to print labels right from Square but have been printing labels and barcodes using the above method.

As for entering Items, I click on Items on my Ipad in the Square Stand, scan the Barcode, if the barcode matches a SKU field it shows the item.... if the item is not in Squares inventory I get a blank Item name.... type in the Item name and remaining fields you need to fill in for the new item ... the SKU should be prefilled with the scanned SKU. Just remember to hit the save after entering it.  Should be similar on other Square devices. As far as a slow search for items, I think Square has or had a 25000 items limit.

Just under the 1st picture Adjust Stock, there is a note of a 25ooo item limit.

Happy to hear you're considering purchasing the Square Register.

We don't currently have a limit to the amount of items a seller can have in their item library. It is known that

performance can start to get slower at around 10,000 items. How many items do you have?

If you know exactly what singular item/label you need, can you not search for that in the add item section? And if you are wanting one of every label, I don't understand why the category option wouldn't be viable. There's a search bar in both instances that allows for finding the exact Item for which you need the label.

So there are two issues.

1 .when using the add item section there is a massive delay in adding the item when searching. It also adds the previous item multiple times when adding a new item.

2. Category isn't really feasible as again, 30,000 skus means going through a lot of items when using categories.

It's not just adding an item that's the issue, it's the fact that it's super slow and you have to constantly hit add item and then adjusting the quantity to 1.

It should just be scan for item, adds item to list of labels to generate, continue to scan items.
