Contactless device pairs with tablet but when try to test it top orange line says no internet. We have Verizon so should be connected at all times.

You'll want to look for your exact device using this tool - there are a few different versions of the Galaxy Tab A.
If yours is this one, it looks like it is not compatible with the Square Reader for contactless and chip.

If your device is using a mobile network, your device can still have spotty connection to the Square Point of Sale app due to strength of service in a particular area.
Can you confirm signal strength in the area you use your POS app?
