Do you need to use a square card reader to be able to connect to the square appointment management or can any hardware from another company be used?

If you would like to accept payments for bookings using Square Appointments, then use you would need to use a Square device like the Square Reader or Manual Card Entry via the Appointments app/dashboard.
You cannot process payments using hardware from another company at this time.
You could still use the Appointments system for in-person sales and then tender the bookings as cash, and process the payment through your other payment processor.
