So we took a tap to pay payment with a Visa card. Instead of card, it’s labeled as check. Under it shows that it’s a visa and the last four digits of the card. Has anyone else experienced this? It was a rather large sale as well so I’m worried about this. Below is a screenshot with identifying details crossed out.
Hi there @MWC773.. Reading your post definitely caused me to question reality. Ha. So, I fired up Square AI and asked it "why does a Visa payment show up as "check" in transaction details?" It returned this answer:
"A Visa payment might show as "check" in transaction details due to how certain payment types or risk evaluations are processed or categorized by Square's system, possibly related to prepaid cards or payment verification rules. For detailed info on payment risk and verification, see Square's Risk Manager setup. Learn more about how to set up Square Risk Manager."
Even a web browser AI query says something similar:
"A Visa payment may show up as "check" in transaction details if the payment was processed through a check-like method, such as an electronic check or ACH transfer, rather than a traditional credit card transaction. This can happen if the merchant uses a payment processor that categorizes the transaction in this way."
It seems that Square Risk Manager might have decided that this is the best way to ensure payment using that customer's card, though I can not in any way guess as to what criteria is used to determine that. As long as your funds show up in your balance at some point, I wouldn't worry too much about the mechanics.
