Can you have a deposit amount applied to a transaction without creating an invoice?

We sell our products mainly through Art Festivals and Fairs.  Normally I take a payment for an order using and itemized sale, run the credit card and be done.  However, we are starting to take a 50% deposit on some orders.  Is there a way to do that without creating an invoice?  And have the transaction show that there is a balance due?

We tried doing a 50% discount - but that kind of screws up how things look.  Because we actually do have some discounts and they all are lumped together as a discount when in fact it's not all a discount.

It's not practical to create an invoice at an art fair and then send it to them to have to pay.

Thoughts?

We would still like to use the itemized sale if we could rather than having it all done on paper and just typing in a specific amount for the sale.

Thanks!

Hi 316Stone,

I don't believe at the present there's feature to support what you have mind.  Perhaps submitting a Feature Request as something that could be looked at down the road.  One possible work around - create an item called "Deposit", no price or no inventory.   Then fill in the deposit amount and annotate in the Text Field what it's for and who it's from.  As for adding Tax - that would depend on if your items are taxable.  This method would take some extra work on your end to keep track of things but, it is certainty doable.   We have an item called "Misc", it used for situations that come up when nothing in our Library fits.   It comes in handy from time to time for us.  Just a thought of course - perhaps others here have some other ideas.
