Can an non-resident of Australia open and account?

Hello,

Before signing up I have a few questions. I am a German citizen and will be doing work in Australia.

1)Can I create an account in Australia using my bank account in Australia? I have an address from a friend that I use in Melbourne. I also have an ABN (Australian Business Number). I have no government identity documents from Australia, I am not a resident.

Is there a work around?

Hey @DADO,

Thanks for getting in touch.

You don't need to be a resident of Australia to use Square, however you will need to pass an ID verification, which is based on matching your personal details with Australian credit history records as well as government databases. To pass the check we need to get multiple matches that confirm your details, so it does require you having enough presence on these databases to pass this check.

If you've not been in Australia long and don't have a Australian ID it can be difficult for pass the ID verification to use Square - the records we use to verify your ID tend to build up over time. You can read a little more about this process here and give our support team a call on 1800 760 137 if you'd like to chat about your account.

All the best!
