Is there an option in the settings somewhere to just accept debit cards and reject credit cards automatically with Square Reader? I use Square for my small business and am fine with accepting both but we are looking into accepting card payments for a small not for profit organization, and the credit card fees would be too much for us to handle. The members are mostly on the older side and a bit "technically challenged", so checking each card before use and declining to accept credit cards is not an option. I have been looking through the help files but it seems that if we accept cards, it has to be all of them? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Great question. Unfortunately I don't think there is a way to distinguish between accepting debit or credit cards.
While checking each individual card might not be an option, it might be worth training whoever will be taking payments for the not-for-profit to verbally explain to customers that you'd prefer if they used a debit/bank card instead of a credit card because of increased fees.
Most customers (even older ones) are not naïve to the fact that credit card transactions cost small businesses more. The short 15 second convo could be worth it.

Thank you @lenjobakes ! That's what I suspected but it's good to get it confirmed. I am not so much worried about the customers, more about the volunteers that need the training, and most of them are very reluctant to get into anything that isn't cash or cheque. Took me forever to teach them about etransfers 🙂
