Can I Activate a Square UK Account Without Living in the UK?

Hi,

My business is registered in the UK, but I am Dubai resident. My business is fully online.

When I try to do my identity verification, I enter my own address in Dubai, but the postcode (actually there are no postcodes in Dubai, so I have to enter "00000") is not accepted. Also I have the option to choose "County" which is not applicable to UAE.

I don't see where I can check the default country setting in my account - can this be the issue?

Most of the transactions would be done from EU to the UK bank account, so I don't need to do payment processing in the UAE.

Could you please advice the best way to proceed in my case?

Thank you!

Best regards,

Maria

Hi Maria 👋 thanks for your post.

To activate a Square UK account, you must provide a UK residential address and be living in the UK.

As such, entering an address outside of the UK, like your Dubai residence, will not be accepted.

If you have a business partner or representative who is based in the UK, they may be able to complete the process using their address and identity details, however if you are the sole owner of this business, this will not be feasible. Square account ownership is permanent and cannot be changed at a later date.

Square card processing is not yet available in the UAE, unfortunately.

I hope this helps. @MariaMos
