I have a bluetooth barcode scanner connected to my POS system and it works BUT, sometimes I have to scan an item at least twice before it pops up on my screen, and then I have to select the item to add it to the cart, AND THEN I have to hit the X on the item on the search bar to clear it BEFORE I can scan again.
Is this typical or is there a way to be able to scan continuously like at Walmart or Target, so add items quickly to the cart? I have accidentally missed items because I didn't X out of the last item so the new scanned item doesn't get added.
Thank you!
@TheReadery I think I have found the barcode for you to scan to enable the suffix ENTER. Below is a link to the Netum scanner codes.
You will want to go to page 2 , 4th row down 2nd barcode over. Scan that and it should add the ENTER to the end of your scan. Below is a photo of the barcode to scan. You may have to print that page out, I have never had any luck scanning off a computer screen.
Hopefully this will get your scanner scanning correctly.
@TheReadery Welcome to the community. Just a thought since you said you were using a bluetooth scanner. Does the scanner so into sleep mode if not used for a period of time? Does it seem to happen if you bring the scanner out of sleep mode? If so I wonder if the scanner is not making a full connection when waking up, before you scan a item.
Hi Randy! Thank you for your response!
At the beginning, I do have to wait for the scanner to wake up, to be able to scan - my problem is that I have to keep clicking in the search bar on my POS, and then select the item that pops up (once it scans), and then I have to clear the search bar, and click back in the search bar before I can scan again, or the new scans just add numbers to the previous scan. It's not very convenient really - with a bluetooth keyboard I could key in items quicker than the non stop touching of the iPad this route.
@TheReadery Ok, sounds like the barcode scanner is not set up to automatically send enter after the scan.
Many scanners have a setting to append a keystroke (like Enter or Tab) after the code.
Without it, Square just searches for the item but won’t add it to the cart.
Fix: Check your scanner’s manual for “Suffix” or “Append Enter” settings and enable it. Usually it’s a barcode you scan from the manual to turn it on.
There should be a book with your scanner that has barcodes to scan to set it up, Look through it for the one that adds ENTER at the end. That way when you scan the item will be added automatically.
Oh wow, that would fix it!! I will go check it soon. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for your question, @TheReadery, and thank you for your insight, @rtfulk! So glad to hear that this may have resolved it for you.
Please let us know if this doesn't solve it for you and we can take another look!
Hi, that did not fix it. My manual did not have that as an option because it’s default setting should be to Enter after.
is there something else I can try?
what is the name and model of your scanner?
Netum RF2.4G/Bluetooth/USB Wired CCD 2D.

What model barcode scanner do you have?
@TheReadery Just checking in to see if that fixed your problem.
Hi @rtfulk I was unsuccessful trying to scan on the computer - so I am printing the page you sent today to try later.
I called Square support and they said that Square is not suppose to auto select once scanned - that no matter what - i will have to select the item. I don't know if this is 100% true or not.
I did go ahead and order a different type of scanner to try - but it hasn't arrived yet.
Thank you for checking back in with me! This afternoon I will try the printout and see if the scanner will scan the barcode with the Enter prompt.
You're welcome, I just want to make sure you get everything working correctly. When we used our Square stands, our Scanners would scan it right in, we didn't have to do anything. We used Honeywell Voyager 1200g, they are USB scanners.
