Backorder option

At times when my stock sells well in my physical store my stock is out of stock and cannot be purchased online.

Is there any way in Square to set a backorder option so items can be purchased online and shipped out when I have more stock available?

Hi @ENABLE, great question!

Currently, Square allows you to set up an item for pre-order, but only for Pickup and Local Delivery. We don't yet offer the pre-order option for Shipping, but we’re aware of the demand and will provide an update should this feature become available in the future. While it's not exactly the same as a backorder notification, some sellers have used this method similarly, and it may work as an option for you as well. To learn how to set up an item for pre-order, follow the steps in this guide.

As a manual workaround, we've also recommend adding 'PRE-ORDER' to the item name and description to Sellers in the past. Be sure to include the estimated shipping date in the item description so customers are aware of the timeframe. This workaround is best suited for new item releases due to the manual setup involved.

I hope this helps to answer your question! Let us know if we can help with anything else.
