Applying a discount to one item on a ticket and not the rest

How do I apply a discount to one single line item on a ticket without discounting all other items on the ticket?

@kernrivertavern I see the issue now.  In my examples, I assumed that your items had modifiers or variations or something attached to them.  It seems you don’t use those.  So, let’s try this again.

First, please understand that the “Add discount” button you are seeing at the bottom of your transaction is designed to apply a discount to the entire transaction.   This means that if you add the discount using that button, then all other items in the transaction will also be discounted.  This is called a transaction-level or cart-level or order-level discount.

In order to apply a discount to an individual items, you will have to click on that item (the blue name).  This will open up a window and if you scroll down you’ll see the discounts section where you can toggle discounts off and on.  Any discount chosen here will only be applied to that item and nothing else.

Hey @kernrivertavern.  So as you are adding the item to the cart, scroll down to the very bottom.  There you will see a list of discounts that can be applied at the item level..  Select the discount you want and it will be applied to that item.  Note that item-level discounts can ONLY be percentage discounts, not dollar discounts.

Thanks for you're reply, I add items to a ticket not a cart, I don't have a cart, I'm using Square POS v6.441

There is a discount option but it apply's the discount to all items in the ticket, I don't seem to have the ability to add a discount to a single item on my ticket

Thanks

@kernrivertavernCart/ticket/transaction.  They are all the same thing.  I did not know which Square POS app you were using.  So, if you are using the standard Square POS, after you click the item tile, scroll down to the bottom of the screen.  Below dining options and taxes you’ll see a discounts section, circled in red in the attached screen shot.  That’s where you’ll add the item-only discount.

Unfortunately, I don't have dining options only discounts my layout looks different.

I've added some screen grabs,

the first where I add a Soda and select the 'Add Discount' option a 50% discount in this case.

The third screen grab you can see it discounted  as expected by 50%

The fourth screen grabI add a shocktop beer which is automatically discounted by the same amount 50%
