Android 12. Contactless Chip Reader Never-Ending Update Loop, 2 hours "UNCLE"

My android updated to v12 last week. Tried to use my contactless reader with my Samsung a51 today. The device paired, but then went into an insatiable update process. I waited with the client through 4 updates before deciding that this was not working.

Steps taken. Checked device charge. 90%. Reset Device with 20 sec press.

Removed device from phone memory and repaired.

Removed and reinstalled the Square app, repaired device. Still doing this.

connects to app, goes into update cycle. .Gets to 99% and reader illuminates 4 green lights. reader disconnected icon, reader connected icon, check mark for reader in status bar at top of phone 1 second before the process repeats again.

Client gone, but I've been at this for 2 hours. Turning devices off for now. Is there a way to do a firmware update via computer cable rather than whatever this *storm is?

Thanks, Kb

Hi Alanah. Thanks for your reply. I did call the 855 number yesterday. Agent was mostly unhelpful, telling me I could buy a new device for $49. I do not run cards that often, and figured it would take a lot of processing fees to equal $49, if I used the strip slide reader instead. I was surprised to learn that the strip reader is now processing at 2.6%. So, that's my plan. Just swipe the cards instead of inserting or tapping.

If I need to buy another contactless reader at some point, I'll just do so through the web site. If you know of a way that I can get a lower price for a device that is out of warranty or if you believe I should have been offered a lower rate having already invested in the device, I'd appreciate that advice.

Warm regards, KB
xo for your "welcome", too

Hey there @kb04090

Jumping on here for Alanah as she will be out of the office for a couple of days.

At this time we do not have any promotional discounts that can be applied to the Square Contactless and Chip reader. When we do so we will let you know via email so you can take advantage of the promotional value offered when that happens.
