I have the same question....
..as a AmEX cardholder I actively seek out the “Small shops”
found one today near the campsite we are staying on - we increased our spend in the store to hit the £10 threshold to get our £5 back from Amex
its a great deal for the shop, which gets the full transaction amount, and a great deal for the customer
