Add SKU Shortcut

Hi. I'm trying to streamline our sales process and was wondering if there's a way to add SKU shortcuts, specifically for item variations, directly to the Item Grid in the Square app.

Has anyone managed to do this or found a good workaround? Any tips would be much appreciated!

Hey @Teacompany.  If I’m understand your question correctly — that you want POS grids to be tied to a single item variations — then no this is not possible.  Currently POS grids can only contain items, services, certain POS actions and categories.  They do not get as granular as being tied to a specific item variation.  Also, I can think of no workaround to this, I’m sorry to say.  The best that I can suggest is that your you can head over to the Ideate Board and submit a feature request to the Square POS team.  This will start an evaluation process that will eventually result in a decision about whether to add the feature in a future product update.

The only thing I came up with is to have your Items buy Category etc.  Then in the Variation name have the SKU also.  I have items and when the barcode is damaged and cannot be read, I type in the Product identifier.   This identifier could be a shortened SKU or GTIN for example.   04455712345 is a variations GTIN for example but the item name might be Essential Oil Teakwood with code 12345 on the label.   So on my POS I can type in 12345 and Item Essential Oils with Variation Teakwood would appear in the cart.

I can also click Favorites _ Essential Oils

and have a list of all my Scents of oils with the partial GTIN or the entire SKU as a Prefix or Suffix to the variation Name.

So on the Checkout Screen you could type in 12345 and the correct variation will appear or a small list of items if they have the same search criteria of 12345.  You would enter this in your Checkout screen in the Search area.  It is not as Quick as Tapping for a Favorite tile but might be away to speed up things if you have alot of variations of items.

But as @TheRealChipA  has said Square does not let you have a Favorite to a singular variation.  A Favorite Tab to Items, Categories or Sub Categories is possible tho.

Thank you. It seems like this would be an implementation that other sellers would appreciate. I submitted a feature request to the Square POS team in the Ideate Board as @TheRealChipA suggested.
